Rapid Antigen & RT-PCR— The Difference & Which to Choose
Rapid Antigen Test
An Antigen test, commonly called a rapid test, confirms if you’re infected with Covid-19 by detecting viral proteins. It ’ s conducted by analyzing the fluid sample we ’ ll conduct via nasal swab.
Producing results in only 15 minutes, the rapid test comes in handy when you need to know if you ’ re infected right away.
More of the virus needs to be present in order for the Antigen test to detect it, so false negatives can occur. We recommend following up with a PCR test if you feel symptoms despite receiving a negative result in order to be certain.
Traveling internationally? Make sure you take an RT-PCR test! The CDC & most travel destinations will not accept Antigen tests given the possibility of false negatives.

Do you accept insurance?
Insurance covers the RT-PCR Covid-19 Testing option, so all you have to pay is our travel fee. When paying with insurance, however, you will receive results in 24-48 hours rather than 10-36.
Which Covid-19 test do I need for travel?
PCR Tests are generally requested for travel. Testing requirements differ depending on the airline and country, however. So, check with both your travel destination and the airline guidelines to ensure you select a suitable option.
What is a PCR test?
A PCR Covid-19 test detects genetic material from the virus, considered the "gold standard" for checking if you are currently infected with SARS-CoV-2. This test may even detect fragments of coronavirus past the point when you are no longer infected. It is far more accurate than an Antigen test, commonly called a "rapid" test, as antigen tests detect viral proteins & require more of the virus to be present for detection. Your physician may ask you to confirm a negative result from a Rapid antigen test with a PCR test, as antigen tests can result in false negatives
Whats the difference between Antigen and Antibody tests?
Two key differences include: ① the method with which they are performed & ② what we aim to discover with our results. Rapid Antigen tests, usually called Rapid tests, use a nasal swab to confirm if you are infected with Covid-19 at that moment. Antibody tests, on the other hand, require a blood sample to check whether your immune system has responded to the virus by creating antibodies. The results can confirm if you have been infected with Covid-19 in the past.
